The Myrtle Beach Habinas is a Belly Dance Troupe under the direction of Izdihar. We enjoy performing at festivals, celebrations, cultural activities, and other events. We have an open door policy, anyone who would like to join in the fun and share our love of dance is welcome!
We believe "There is a dancer in every woman." - Yuki Chua
Meet the troupe!
Schehera
After struggling with a serious illness; Schehera decided to take up a new hobby that might help her recover and bring some needed joy. She heard about belly dance through a colleague whose mother was a belly dancer. She thought this dance might do the trick. Prior to classes Schehera only knew about the costumes and that in and of itself drew her to this beautiful art.
For many years in her home state of New York, Schehera learned the history of the dance, the multi faceted techniques and various choreographies.
Luckily for the Habinas, Schehera found us shortly after relocating to Myrtle Beach.
Under the directive of Izdihar, her love of the dance and music has increased three- fold .
Schehera says, “Come join us ; and learn thru this dance how to ‘worship your goddess within’ And have a great experience too!”

Katie
Originally from Carmel Indiana, Katie first started dancing at the age of 2 when her parents enrolled her in ballet classes. After 5 years and being told she was too young to proceed into pointe she quit ballet, dabbled in gymnastics for a couple years, then ultimately switched to figure skating at the age of 10. Katie skated competitively for 10 years with a focus on ice dance and synchronized skating, including 2 years at the collegiate level with the Indiana University Figure Skating Team. While at IU, Katie took a variety of classes in swing, hip hop, salsa, and Latin dance through various programs and clubs offered through the university and it was through these programs that she was first introduced to belly dance. She spent 5 semesters learning and studying belly dance with Katya Farris and as part of the IU Middle Eastern Belly Dance Club. After graduating from IU in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in public affairs management and a minor in music, it would take 11 years before she would find another dance outlet. After moving to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2013, Katie resumed her search for an adult dance class or troupe; finally finding and joining the Myrtle Beach Habinas in August 2017.
